It sure is nice outside these days, but with summer right around the corner, this is time of year is also known as kitty season. The cat population explodes right about now, so please be sure to spay/neuter your cats, especially the outdoor ones, because so many are left without a home or worse.
And speaking of kittens, there are already a bunch available at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter. These sweet kitties are ready to go home, so please be sure to check them out today.
If your more of a pooch person, Nicky Doodles is the gorgeous brindle hound mix pictured above. He came to the shelter as a stray in May 2014 and at only 5 months old, this big boy tips the scales at nearly 40 pounds! Nicky Doodles is still growing and needs a family willing to teach him all a pup needs to know. A bit shy with strangers, this pup will need tons of training, socializing and real world experiences to ensure that he grows up to be a calm, balanced and respectful adult. Nicky Doodles loves to play with tennis balls and is very interested in the company of other pups. Due to his size and need for training, Nicky would be best suited to a home with kids ages 10 years and up. Up to date on all age appropriate vaccinations, healthy and vet checked...Nicky will be given a microchip and altered prior to going to his forever family. Come give this big mush some lovin' today!

Now check out this handsome guy known as Harley. Harley was a hitch hiker. He came from a neighboring Kentucky shelter and bummed a ride on a transport to Last Hope on Long Island that was coming from the Bowling Green, KY shelter. He’s a comical-looking fellow with Basset legs and a Rhodesian Ridgeback head and chassis. He even has the faint outline of the ridge. This happy hound combo is about a year old and weighs 43 pounds. This effervescent boy is looking for folks who will thoroughly appreciate his uniqueness as much as he appreciates them so go ahead and make his acquaintance today!
