Let’s

Oh, let’s pretend,

I’m not so old and

I can allow myself a dream or two,

And indulge in the make believe only admitted by youth.

Then I would pretend

I had time to make amends

I had time to mend broken fences

I had time to sing more songs

And learn more prayers.

I would pretend

He was only on a business trip and

Soon would be home

And the house would ring with the laughter again

And tomorrow wouldn’t come so quickly.

I would pretend

I could still dance

And travel

And understand, comprehend and

Always forgive.

And maybe if I pretend long enough, I still have time to make some of it come true.

And maybe, just maybe, I would admit to the reality that I can’t change what is over.
