Man Charged in Massapequa Burglaries

In one case, the 22-year-old was asked to watch his friend's dog, but he instead burglarized his friend's home, police say.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - A 22-year-old man accused of burglarizing his friend’s Massapequa home earlier this month is also charged in other recent thefts in the area , Nassau County Police said Wednesday.

According to police, a 46-year-old man left his home on Merrick Road on Thursday, Feb. 11 for vacation. When he returned hom on Sunday, Feb. 14, he noticed his front door was unlocked and several items had been taken from his home, police said.

The man had asked his friend, 22-year-old Michael Farris, who has no known address, to watch his dog, but never gave Farris permission to enter the house, police said.

After an investigation, detectives placed Farris under arrest on Monday.

Detectives were able to recover a PS3 gaming system and an Xbox, which were proceeds from the burglary, at a local pawn shop, police said. A stolen Sony TV was not recovered.

Police said Farris also committed a burglary on Dec. 28 at the Newstop kiosk located at the Westfield Sunrise Mall in Massapequa, where he stole cash.

On January 18, Farris also stole a handbag containing cash, credit cards and personal papers, from a 63-year-old woman at the Dunkin‘ Donuts located at 4886 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park, police said.

Farris is charged with second and third degree burglary and two counts of fourth degree grand larceny, police said.
