Man Tries to Rob Bethpage Gas Station, Finds No Money
The attempted robbery occurred Wednesday morning, police say.

The masked man who tried to rob a Bethpage gas station Wednesday morning left empty handed after he found no money in the register, police say.
According to authorities, a man entered Exxon gas station, located at 100 Hicksville Road, and placed a demand note on the counter at 1:12 a.m.
The man lifted his shirt, displaying what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband, and told a 36-year-old employee to read the note as the worker returned from the rear of the store, police say.

The worker opened the register and showed the robber there was no money and the masked man subsequently fled southbound without any proceeds, police say.
Police described the man as 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black ski mask or scarf and black gloves.
