Massapequa Band Gets Ready To March

Though school hasn't started, the Massapequa High School marching band is already practicing next year's routine.

Disney is this year’s theme for the Massapequa High School marching band, which will perform its show during halftime of all home football games and at the Newsday Marching Band Festival in October.

A voluntary camp was held at the high school from Aug. 14-16, and a majority of the marching band’s 152 members attended. Band directors Eva Marie Arnold and Andrew Dwork led the camp along with fellow Massapequa band teachers Rob Giannotti, Gary Loock, Mike Perticone and Jessica Wyman. Andrea
Gropf coordinated the flag line. Senior Julian Alberto is the drum major and Sarah Benedict is assistant drum major.

On the football field, band members practiced marching technique, while in the auditorium and little theater they rehearsed music for this year’s show. It will highlight Disney Pixar favorites including “The Incredibles.” Ms. Arnold said the theme was selected because the music department will take a trip to Disney in
March to participate in music workshops.

“Marching band camp allows us to go into September with a running start,” Mr. Dwork said. “We could not do what we do without this great summer program.”
