Massapequa Celebrates Blue Ribbon Certification At Pep Rally
The local high school was among the 1 percent of schools to be named a Blue Ribbon School in Sept.

Attendees at Massapequa High School’s annual pep rally are always full of spirit, but this year there was even more of a reason to be cheerful.
Students and staff celebrated the school’s designation as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the United States Department of Education at the pre-homecoming celebration.
A month after the announcement, the student body came together to celebrate the high school’s achievements in academics, athletics and the arts.

The pep rally featured the introduction of all athletes on fall teams, as well as performances by the marching band, cheerleaders and Chiefettes kickline team.
Principal Patrick DiClemente highlighted the Blue Ribbon award, and said he felt it was important to publicly recognize the students for their hard work and dedication to their studies. Students Gillian Murphy, Jordan Taylor and Alex Zografos told their classmates how special the award is, with less than 1 percent of schools nationwide receiving it, and how proud everyone in Massapequa should be.
