Massapequa Elementary School Students Learn About Coding

Birch Lane Elementary siblings Madeline Ross, a second-grader, and Evan Ross, a first-grader, were paired up during computer programming.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - From Massapequa School District: The computer programmers of tomorrow are getting their start at a young age at Birch Lane Elementary School in the Massapequa School District. First-graders in Kimberly Kelly’s class recently teamed up with second-graders in Janeen Signorile’s class to do basic computer coding.

Students paired up and worked on Chromebooks using the program Kodable. They learned how to make a digital robot move forward, spin and jump through basic programming language. Children learned about sequence and algorithms while developing their critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
