Massapequa Gets A New Arts Director

Kelly Anne Gelfer will be the district's new director of fine and performing arts.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - From Massapequa School District: Kelly Anne Gelfer has joined the Massapequa School District as the new director of fine and performing arts. She will oversee music and art programs at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

Ms. Gelfer previously worked in the East Meadow School District, where she was a high school orchestra teacher and the music department chairperson for grades 6-12 at W.T. Clarke Middle School and High School. She was also a music teacher in Suffolk County for nine years and has been an adjunct professor at Ithaca College, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in music education, and at Columbia Teacher’s College. She also holds a master’s degree from Stony Brook University.

The experienced cellist served on the Executive Board for the Long Island String Festival Association and has worked with the Nassau County Music Educators Association as an orchestra chairperson. She is also the executive director of Brookhaven Art & Music, an organization that provides summer music programs for
students on the east end of Long Island.
