The 10-goal win was the fourth time Massapequa has taken down their opponent by at least that amount.
Heroes: Danielle Doherty has been the teams top scorer all year and has scored five times in each of the last three games for the Chiefs. Christina Fiorinelli controlled the defensive zone and helped hold Oceanside scoreless for the first 32 minutes of the game.
“It was a great game overall, especially in the first half. Our offense possessed and got a lot of good opportunities,” Fiorinelli said. “When we were on defense, we did a good job of keeping the attackers out.”
Turning Point: The Massapequa offense proved to be too much for Oceanside early as the Chiefs stormed out to a six-goal lead in the first 10 minutes.
Quotable: “We haven’t played a game in a week-and-a-half, so I was pleased with how we started out against them in the first half,” Massapequa head coach Megan Zimmer said. “Christina [Fiorinelli] is the backbone of our defense, who all communicate very well with each other and we’ve been working really hard in practice on that.”
Bottom Line: Massapequa has handled their competition as of late, with their last loss being a 13-5 defeat against Manhasset over a month ago. However, the Chiefs still have three of their toughest opponents on the schedule left in Wantagh, Port Washington and Farmingdale to conclude the regular season.
Key Stat: The three goals by Oceanside was the least amount of goals given up by Massapequa in any game this season.
