Massapequa Girls Win Big Over East Meadow

Girls Lacrosse squad comes away with a 14-5 win at Field of Dreams.

It may only be March, but the Massapequa girls Lacrosse team seemed to be in mid-season form Tuesday, easily defeating East Meadow at the complex.

East Meadow started off the game by controlling possession, but that wouldn't last for long. Kristen Yevoli, a sophomore midfielder for Massapequa, snapped a shot passed Vanessa DePasquale to give the Chiefs the lead, which is one they would never relinquish.

Six minutes later, Massapequa had scored four more times, with junior Kelsey O'Brien netting two of them. She had four in the game.

"We were really clicking," O'Brien said. "We need to play tough, and this is a big win for us to gain momentum."

East Meadow finally got on the board when Ryan Meyer put in a rebound.

"We were just getting frustrated," Meyer said. "Those girls were all over us, and we worked really hard to keep our anger in check." Meyer had three goals in the game.

Massapequa controlled possession for a majority of the game, and that played into junior Madalyn Pimental's goal that gave the Chiefs a 6-1 lead.

"We played very well," Massapequa Coach Megan Zimmer said. "One thing I'd like to improve on is our turnovers."

East Meadow was able to tally four more goals on the afternoon, two of which were by senior Jessica Widmann, but they were unable to stop Massapequa, who tallied 14 in the game.

"We just need to work on our shooting and controlling the ball on offense," Widmann said. "We have a lot of good passing in transition, but we need to work on scoring goals."

Despite the lopsided score, East Meadow head coach Collen McMahon said things weren't as bad as they seemed.

"We played well," East Meadow Coach Colleen she said. "We just played one heck of a team today."

Massapequa's next game is at Manhasset Friday at 4:15 p.m., and East Meadow returns to non-league action at 4:30 p.m. Wendesday when it visits Locust Valley.
