Massapequa High School Helps Students Find Career Path
School Holds Annual Career Night Wednesday.

Job finding skills are a problem many adults wrestle with, but students and parents at have a unique opportunity to get a head start on Wednesday night.
The school is holding their second annual Community Career Night in an effort to help students from grades 9 to 12 get a strong introduction to the job market.
But it won't just be the students learning.

"We've done things like this with students during the day," said Adrienne Scamardella, the Coordinating Chairperson of MHS' Business Education and Family and Consumer Sciences Department. "What we wanted to do was something where the parents would be involved."
Both the upstairs and lower gyms at the school will be filled with representatives, from businesses and organizations who will speak to students about possible career paths.

There will also be student workshops during the program, which runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m..
A representative from DeVry University will conduct a workshop designed to get students to understand how their values and personality relate to future goals and can help with high school class scheduling.
There will be a resume writing and design workshop conducted by a representative of Adelphi University's Center for Career Development as well as a job interview workshop conducted by Mary Ellen King, a senior Vice President of Bank America.
There will also be a parent workshop on school to work transition by students with disabilities.
Scamardella said that the programs are designed to get students to think about career issues early on, adding that she wished she had the same opportunities when she was younger.
"I was a good student, I just didn't know what to do," she said. "We wanted to help the students do something that would give them some ideas."
The school has urged those attending the program to register in advance., but registration is available at the door on a first come first serve basis.
