Massapequa Honored for Scholar-Athletic Excellence Sixth Time in a Row
Massapequa High School honored as a School of Distinction from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association.

In recognition of high achievement in the classroom as well as the playing field, Massapequa High School became a six-time recipient of the prestigious “School of Distinction” Award from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). The achievement places the district among an elite group of schools in the state to receive the honor multiple times over the past decade.
To be considered for the award, the district must certify that 100 percent of its varsity athletic teams received the Scholar-Athlete Team Award from the NYSPHSAA, which requires that the composite grade-point average of varsity team members be 90 percent or higher during the athletic season. Massapequa has 30 varsity teams, the second highest number of teams in the county to receive scholar-athlete distinctions.
“It is so vitally important to show the public that our program is balanced,” said NYSPHSAA Section VIII (Nassau County) Executive Director Nina Van Erk at the awards ceremony. “This award holds our student athletes to a higher level of commitment and dedication as they represent schools across the county.”
