To honor retiring principal Lori Dano, kindergartners at Fairfield Elementary School in the Massapequa School District presented her with a personalized book. As part of their nonfiction writing unit, each student in Kathy Landman’s class wrote a short piece, “How to be a Principal.”

The children, who have dubbed themselves “Landman’s Bunch,” wrote their stories based on their personal knowledge about Dano’s job in addition to reading books about principals. They also interviewed Assistant Principal Dr. Kristi Gerhard, who will be their principal next year.

All of the writing pieces were combined in a binder and presented to Dano as a gift.
