Massapequa Kiwanis Introduces New Drug-Awareness Campaign

The program would encourage local teens to report any crimes or suspicious activities through an app.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - Local officials as well as the Kiwanis Club of Massapequa introduce their new drug-awareness campaign at a conference earlier this week.

Members of the Kiwanis Club Alex Kelch, John Kilgus, John Rywelski, Leonard "Buddy" Antonelli, Nassau County Police Commissioner, Thomas Krumpter; Crispin Hale; Nassau County Legislator, Rose Marie Walker; Nassau County Legislator, James Kennedy; Mark Marrazzo; Robert Thompson; Kiwanis President, Diana McDonough; Lieutenantt. Governor Designate, Ted Heim, Sr.; Chairman, Phil Tesoriero; Susan Febbraro; Dominic DiFranco and Rocco Dionisio all joined together at Brady Park on Monday to announce “See Something, Text Something,” a drug-awareness campaign sponsored by Massapequa Kiwanis.

The program would include installing signs in Massapequa and Massapequa Park to encourage teenagers to download the Nassau County Crime Stoppers app on their phones, which would allow users to text Crime Stoppers directly if they see something suspicious, out-of-place, or illegal in order to help fight drug use in the local communities.

"Combatting the heroin epidemic that is facing our county and the nation is a top priority for the Nassau County Police Department, and information from the community is valuable intelligence for our police officers to use as they fight this problem," the police department wrote on their Facebook page.

“See Something, Text Something” is part of the Kiwanis Drug Initiative, which is being introduced to schools districts throughout Long Island and New York State.
