Massapequa Firefighter Honored For 70 Years Of Service

The local man has served in the North Massapequa Fire Department since February 1947.

A Massapequa resident was recently honored for his 70 years of active service with the North Massapequa Fire Department.

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano honored Firefighter Frederick Penna during a ceremony on Thursday with a citation for his years of service to his community.

“The men and women of Nassau’s volunteer fire service put their lives on the line to protect our homes and communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week," Mangano said. "I thank Frederick for his dedication these past 70 years, and for all that he has done for Nassau’s residents.”

Penna has served in the North Massapequa Fire Department since February 1947.

His only sabbatical from the fire service was during the Korean conflict, from 1951 to 1953, when he served in the United States Army.

Penna was honorably discharged and went back to the fire service where he has held every office within the department.

He was has been married to Dorothy Penna since February 1954. They have 3 children and have lived in the same house for almost 60 years.
