Massapequa Park Couple Starts Fundraiser to Make Home More Handicap Accessible

The local woman was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2003.

MASSAPEQUA PARK, NY - A Massapequa Park couple recently started a GoFundMe page to raise money for a local woman who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) to help her make her home more handicap accessible.

Katie, a special education teacher and Craig Hobi, a New York City firefighter, who have been married since 2011, started the page back in March to raise money to update their home.

Since her diagnosis in 2003, Katie's MS has progressed and her quality of life has declined, according to the page.

The money raised will be used towards a handicap accessible bathroom and kitchen in their home.

The goal is to raise a total of $80,000 for the renovations. So far, since the page was created on March 8, $34,280 has been raised.

"Katie and Craig have worked so hard towards buying a house and making it a home, however, as of now, Katie is unable to enjoy their sanctuary," the page reads. "Katie has raised thousands of dollars for MS related charities in order to help others afflicted with this illness. This year her and Craig would so appreciate receiving some help from others at this most difficult time."
