Massapequa Prepares For Major Winter Storm: Latest Forecast, Cancellations, How To Prepare

Senior programs at North Massapequa Monday have already been canceled.

MASSAPEQUA, NY. — Massapequa residents could be seeing even more snow than expected this weekend, as forecasts from the National Weather Service now indicate that parts of Long Island could see snow accumulation of up to 15 inches from Saturday night into Monday.

Current data from the National Weather Service says Massapequa could see snow as soon as 1 a.m. Sunday morning, with a 100 percent chance of snow during the day Sunday. Accumulation during the day Sunday is forecasted at between 7 and 11 inches of snow, with further snow and sleet accumulation Sunday night forecasted at 2 to 4 inches. By Monday, snow is still expected before 1 p.m., but the chance of precipitation drops to 70 percent.

The Town of Oyster Bay has already set up a snow storm sanitation alerts page, and is encouraging residents to move their cars off streets and into driveways, along with any other roadway obstructions, such as basketball hoops.

Town officials also said Monday sanitation pickups will be moved to Tuesday, while Tuesday pickups will be moved to Wednesday. Senior programs in North Massapequa Monday have already been cancelled.
