Massapequa School Budget Approved

Massapequa residents approved the school district's budget in a vote Tuesday night.

The proposed $204,140,059 budget was approved 2,526 to 1.045. It came with a 2.86 percent tax levy increase.

Voters also elected two new Board of Education trustees. Allison Steakin and Cher Lepre will take seats on the board, earning 1,625 and 1,612 votes, respectively. They defeated Michale McCann, who earned 1,569 votes, and Erik Gustafson, who had 1,278.

Voters also cast their ballots for a proposition to increase the Board of Education from five to seven members. The measure, however, was resoundingly denied, with 2,027 people voting against it and 1,479 for it.
