Massapequa School District Reaches Contract with Teachers

Three-year pact gives retroactive raises.

The Massapequa school district has reached an agreement with the teacher's union on a new labor pact that will last through the 2011-2012 school year.

The Board of Education voted to formally approve the agreement Thursday after concluding negotiations three weeks ago, superintendent Charles Sulc said.

The deal gives two one percent retroactive pay increases for the current school year. One increase will be credited for September of 2009 and the other will be credited to February of this year.

Teachers will also receive a one percent increase in September of 2010 and get another one percent increase in February 2011.

There will be only one final one percent pay increase in the last year of the deal, which will come in September 2011, Sulc said.

The teachers had been working without a contract and a mediator had been called into the negotiations, according to the superintendent.
