Police Seeking Man Who Fired Shots Into Long Island Home

He fired shots after attempting to kick a door in, police say. Schools were on lockout Friday afternoon.

UPDATE, 8 p.m.: Suffolk Police say they are searching for 34-year-old Bernard King. King, of Bohemia, attempted to kick in the front door at a home on East Main Street in East Islip at about 6:40 a.m., police said.

King then fired three rounds into the door, police said. King also called a person inside the home and made verbal threats, police said. No one was injured.

King fled in a 2020 Kia Sorrento, which police later located. Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

UPDATE, 2:30 P.M.: Nassau County Police say that the lockouts have been lifted at all the schools in the area.

The schools were placed on lockout this morning as Nassau Police were helping the Suffolk County Police Department search for a suspect in the area. A Nassau County Police spokesman said the man had not been found, but police no longer suspected he was in the area.

Though the students were not in any danger, police said, the schools were put in lockout out of caution.

ORIGINAL STORY: Four Massapequa schools and three Farmingdale schools are currently on lockout as police look for a suspect in the area.

The Massapequa School District alerted parents that Lockhart, East Lake and McKenna elementary schools, as well as the Ames High School, are all currently on lockout. According to Newsday, the Farmingdale School District also placed Woodward Parkway and Albany Avenue elementary schools on lockout, as well as Farmingdale High School.

The Nassau County Police Department is searching for a suspect in the area. A police spokesman said there is no imminent threat, and that the schools were placed on lockout as a precaution.

Sources tell Patch that there was a domestic disturbance on Main Street in East Islip, and the suspect fled into the Massapequa area.
