Birch Lane Elementary School in the Massapequa School District participate in Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 23-27.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - From Massapequa Public Schools: Birch Lane Elementary School in the Massapequa School District marked Red Ribbon Week from Oct. 23-27 with activities that encouraged students to live healthy lifestyles.

The Red Ribbon Campaign is a national initiative devoted to the health and well-being of youth. This year’s theme was “Your Future is Key so Stay Drug Free.” At Birch Lane, Red Ribbon Week was a partnership between the school and PTA.

Students made “I will stay healthy by…” posters that were hung throughout the school. Some of the ideas included exercising regularly, eating fruits and vegetables, and brushing their teeth. Children were also encouraged to wear red to school to express their commitment to making healthy choices and being drug free.
