From Massapequa School District: First-graders tested their flexibility in their lower backs as they practiced for the FitnessGram test at Fairfield Elementary School in the Massapequa School District. Timmy Hassell demonstrated for his classmates as physical education teacher John Musmacker measured his stretch.
The test also includes a flexed arm hang for muscular strength, the pacer run for cardiovascular health, the sit and reach for flexibility and curlups. FitnessGram, which replaced the Presidential Fitness Challenge, is a districtwide initiative to promote physical fitness.
