Massapequa Welcomes New Class Of Teachers

MASSAPEQUA, NY — While students are still squeezing in the last days of summer, the doors of Massapequa School District opened last week to some new faces that don’t aren’t here to learn arithmetic or language arts — they’re here to teach it.

These are the 55 first-year faculty members in Massapequa schools, who joined district personnel for a four-day program last week to get them acclimated to their new district.

The program opened with introductions from Board of Education President Kerry Wachter and Superintendent Dr. William Brennan, both of whom highlighted the support teachers will have from the district and the board going forward.

For Brennan, it was also an opportunity to highlight the opportunity these teachers and faculty members had before them.

“The truth is, this is the most fulfilling, greatest career that you could ever enter into,” Brennan said.

For her part, Wachter informed teachers of the mission that they would be helping Massapequa schools carry out: helping students achieve success.

“Every teacher here, whether it’s elementary or high school or middle school, you are owning a piece of this mission and vision and helping us get our students to success, that day when they graduate," Wachter said.

Wachter also highlighted the competencies and vision outlined in district materials, before handing over the orientation to assistant superintendent Bryan Piotrowski and executive assistant Alison Morgan, who led a workshop on the instructional technology that would be made available to the new staffers.

Among those new staff members are seven Massapequa High School graduates, with the 55-person first-year group covering classes across subject matter and building lines.
