59 Arrested For Heroin-Related Charges In Nassau

Four of those arrested were suspected dealers, a report says.

Fifty-nine people were arrested on heroin-related charges in Massapequa, one of the hardest-hit communities in Nassau County, police announced Thursday morning.

According to Newsday, the 59 arrests were made in the last week, and included four alleged drug dealers.

“This is the first spot, the hottest spot right now in the county and we’re going after it,” Newsday reported Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder saying. “We’re going to take it back, street by street, neighborhood by neighborhood.”

Officials held a press conference in the parking lot of the Massapequa LIRR station Thursday morning to announce the arrests, which were made with the use of the county's new ODMAP technology. Police say that ODMAP provides real-time information, linking first responders with mapping tools to track overdoses as they occur, and alerts officials to spikes in overdoses.
