Never Stop

Trying

I have to admit I have learned a lot this past week

Possibly, also, because I was ill for 48 hours and yes, quite frightened.

And perhaps that is precisely why this period of time is still called “The Ides of March.”

I also admit to an overactive imagination so you can guess the consequences of an unexpected and severe allergy attack.

However, that is past (and hopefully, not to be repeated,) but it also taught a humbling lesson and one not health related.

I have a lot to learn, and I admit I have been arrogant.

At my stage of life, I sincerely believed that because I have had to cope with many learning curves along the way (major losses of loved ones as well as ongoing isolation and pain caused by a perhaps innocently cruel but incomprehensible shunning,) I have been taught the essence of survival.

I chose to hope I could continue to deal with all that life might send my way.

Well, I was wrong.

I am close to defeat, and that is hard to admit.

My opponent is a Direct TV Remote, an essential part of life when ill.

And either I, or it, failed miserably this past week.

As I took to my bed (similar to the fictional Camille) I needed the essential medication of DIRECT TV streaming (far more effective than most sedatives.)

I have had intensive instruction about the various buttons, arrows and color indications, but as we both know, I am (or was) smug.

And yes, after lengthy efforts, and admittedly, more than a few tears of frustration, I gave up.

I admitted defeat.

Then I remembered a classic warning given years ago by a beloved and wise friend:

“Remember you are the human.”

And I tried once again, and to my utter delight, I finally won the battle.

Now if only I can remember how to do it again.

And perhaps that was the important lesson this week in March

Never stop trying!
