New Dick's Sporting Goods Store to Open in Massapequa

Two new Dick's Sporting Goods store will be opening up on Long Island, including one in Massapequa, the Westfield Corporation announced recently.

The Massapequa store will located at the Westfield Sunrise Mall. In addition, a store will also be opening up at the Westfield South Shore in Bay Shore.

“We are always looking to introduce new choices and conveniences for our shoppers,” Virginia Pepe, General Manager of Westfield Sunrise and Westfield South Shore said in a statement. “Dick's is a great operator and will be a welcome addition to both locations."

The new 53,000-square-foot store will be built on the lower level of the former Walmart building.

Westfield Mall officials announced the closing of the Walmart store back in 2015. The branch employed about 300 people.

Construction of both stores is currently underway. They are expected to open next spring.

"These new stores coupled with the recent redevelopment of South Shore and additional openings planned for Sunrise demonstrate our ongoing commitment to the growth of these communities and to provide our Long Island customers with a broad range of shopping options,” Pepe said.
