New ShopRite Opens in Massapequa

The store opened at the location of the former Walbaum's.

ShopRite announced on Tuesday that it has opened its newest supermarket in Massapequa.

The supermarket, located on 5508 Sunrise Highway, will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on Sunday, Nov. 6 starting at 8 a.m.

The 67,000-square-foot ShopRite is operated by the Buonadonna ShopRite, LLC, which also runs stores in Bay Shore and West Babylon.

The location, which was previously a Waldbaum’s which shut down after the A&P chain bankruptcy, underwent an extensive renovation.

The new ShopRite store will employ 175 full- and part-time workers.

“We are thrilled to bring ShopRite to this new location in Massapequa," Melissa Buonadonna-Hernandez, the company owner said. "We are a family business committed to the families we serve in the communities where our ShopRite stores operate on Long Island."

The new store is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
