No Laughing Matter: Nassau Police Nab Clown Who Chased Kids

Police say a 17 year old dressed as a clown chased children in a park while armed with a stun gun.

Nassau police arrested a Massapequa teen Tuesday night that they say dressed as a clown and terrified children.

According to police, officers responded to a call just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday for a suspicious person in a car parked on Peconic Drive in Massapequa. Officers arrived and spoke to the driver, a 17 year old. Police say there was a clown costume and mask in plain sight on the passenger seat.

Police say that, during the investigation, officers determined the teen had dressed as a clown the day before and chased multiple children, while armed with a stun gun, in John Burns Park. No one was injured.

The teen was arrested, and police say they recovered four stun guns and a blackjack when they searched his car. The teen's lawyer told Patch the weapons were his father's and the teen was unaware they were in the vehicle.

The teen was later charged as a juvenile.
