Police: Man Arrested After Attempted Robbery Outside Massapequa Park Bar

The incident occurred Saturday evening. The 25-year-old punched a man in the head and later punched a hole in a precinct wall, police say.

A Pennsylvania man faces several charges following an attempted robbery outside a Massapequa Park bar Saturday evening, police said.

According to police, Steven Fitzgibbon, 25, was a patron at Woody’s Village Saloon, located at 1015 Park Boulevard, when he exited the bar with a 59-year-old man around 6:08 p.m. Once outside, Fitzgibbon attempted to take the man’s wallet, police said.

A struggle ensued and Fitzgibbon punched the man, causing a large laceration to his head, police said.

Fitzgibbon fled the scene on foot, but was located and arrested nearby at the Massapequa Park Long Island Rail Road station, police said.

During an investigation, Fitzgibbon was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife and marijuana, police said.

Fitzgibbon was transported to the Seventh Precinct in Seaford, where he proceeded to punch and break a hole into a wall, causing an undetermined amount of damage, police said.

Fitzgibbon is charged with third degree attempted robbery, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth degree criminal mischief and unlawful possession of marijuana. He was arraigned on Sunday and is being held on $50,000 bail.
