“Confession is good for the soul.” So sayeth the Proverbs. So, here goes.
I fell in love, not with the endorsement, but with the sweater. The alerts had been bouncing across the bottom of my TV all afternoon. A VIP would soon endorse one of the leading political contenders in the current tumultuous Iowa arena.
I wasn’t really interested but the Sour Cream Coffeecake had another 40 minutes to bake, and so I watched and waited with minimal enthusiasm and interest. Until I saw the sweater, and I was in love at first sight. Now I must admit I doubt if I have ever possessed a dozen sequins in my wardrobe at any given moment. My closet could easily be described if not as dour, but indeed verging on dull. I remove accessories rather than add them.

Frankly, I truly doubt if the testimonial really held any positive consequences for the optimistic candidate. As a matter of fact before I saw the sweater, I thought, “Why? She certainly wasn’t an asset to the earlier Presidential hopeful.” But then as she was announced and emerged walking across the podium, resplendent in strips of silver glitter, I was lost in admiration and desire. I began to research the Internet. Where could I find another? How much would it cost?
As the brief span of time allotted to the political announcement came to an end, I wondered if I was the only American woman who had reacted with such passion to the garment. But then I read Maureen Dowd’s column in The New York Times this weekend, and I knew I was not alone.

To quote the brilliant author, “Ordinarily, it’s dicey to focus on what a woman in politics is wearing, but again.............has freed us up. She sported a cardigan so gaudy and rogue......”
This weekend on SNL, Tina Fey wore an identical sweater. Until then I had been unsuccessful in locating a duplicate, but I soon realized obviously there was more than just the original article of clothing worn by the Stateswoman. So I located a source. And apparently, I am not the only female who has been looking. The item is close to being sold out. Not only that, it is available in various colors. I can hardly contain my excitement. The price is well beyond my budget, but with such a clamor for the apparel, I am confident there will be less expensive copies on the market within a very short time. Possibly, Amazon may have it in stock now. And while Christmas is over, Valentine’s Day, Groundhog Day, and of course, Mother’s Day are on the horizon in the event any of my loved ones inquire what I might like as a gift. But I think this is something I would prefer to purchase for myself. It is just so incredibly special, and I think I need it now. ASAP.
However, I must explain while I do truly covet this incredible glittering cardigan, I would never ever wear it in public. But it will be utterly perfect when I am hibernating due to foul weather, or perhaps if the Black Irish mood descends. I would don it instantly, and while perhaps the sun might not blaze brightly, it will definitely emerge from the clouds. I would shine exactly as the Orator did when she gave her ringing endorsement
Unfortunately from a political point of view, I believe while most American women totally agree with the Speaker’s choice of her brilliant vestment, they never heard a word she said about the candidate. One thing is certain, however, she certainly gave an incredible boost to the Garment Industry in America.
