A Saga

Of Suffering

“Everyone has a story.”

I honestly don’t know where or when that oft repeated quote and/or statement originated.

However, as the years piled up, I comprehended more and more of it’s validity.

I have also learned that every parent doesn’t choose to share their story, their pain, their estrangement from loved ones.

Perhaps that is the reason there is currently such a compelling fixation by the public on the saga of Meghan and Harry.

Because frankly, the odds are that most people who are obsessed with the minutiae of this hourly ongoing family conflict, will never admit or share their own private anguish,.

So perhaps it is a substitute to watch this complicated family, seemingly enjoying all the luxuries of life, become a modern Shakespearean tragedy.

I wonder if watching and wondering how it all began (as well as daring to question who is right or wrong,) is a substitute for despair about one’s own and equally important family tragedy.

This past week countless onlookers made instant judgment about a private matter they have absolutely no ability to comprehend or understand.

Yet, on almost an hourly basis, the world feels comfortable deciphering “frosty” looks, hurt feelings, as well as imaginary scenarios.

Despite our station in life, be it royal or humble, once you have been blessed with a child, you have much in common and the pain is equal if or when a family is divided.

So perhaps rather than gaze in awe at the newly crowned Monarch, we might say a silent prayer for another parent whose private pain, many others have known only too well.

And whose saga of suffering was not tabloid news or discussed in an interview with Oprah.
