School Bus Driver Sold Heroin in Nassau County: Police

The 26-year-old was arrested Monday night, police say.

NORTH MASSAPEQUA, NY- A 26-year-old man employed as a school bus driver in Suffolk County was arrested Monday night for selling heroin in North Massapequa, Nassau Police said.

According to police, Maldane Cockett, of Copiague, sold heroin to another person for an agreed upon amount of money at the corner of N. Beech Street and N. Broadway shortly after 8 p.m.

Nassau/Suffolk Heroin Task Force detectives, along with Bureau of Special Operations police officers, placed Cockett under arrest at the scene.

Cockett, who is a school bus driver for Copiague-based Educational Bus Transportation, is charged with third degree criminal sale of controlled substance and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
