The She-Bear

And A Missed Opportunity

It is an uncomfortable truth, but at this stage of life, I cannot or chose not to deny reality.

The female is indeed the deadliest of the species, ie, the poor example set by the elegant and inscrutable Melania’s refusal to meet with the current formidable First Lady, Jill.

To quote Kipling:

“But the she-bear thus accosted rends the peasant tooth and nail.

For the female of the species is more deadly than the male.”

The televised moment was brief in time, but could have been a perfect opportunity to provide a lesson not only to America’s youth, but also a significant group of disappointed voters,

I have learned from personal experience that forgiveness is not easy or simple.

It is not an emotion easily resurrected when you are publicly wounded and brutally scarred from another’s rejection or inexplicable vitriol.

Yet I am also quite confident (since I have “been there”) that holding a grudge and/or “Getting even” ensures only a momentary emotional satisfaction.

In reality the physical, emotional and psychological consequences of a choice to neither forget nor forgive are far more long lasting,

Instead of demonstrating the comfort of retribution, being unforgiving leaves an indelible scar. It hides in murky memories, and whispered vague accusations.

Eventually, it becomes a heavy burden that increases in size and sorrow as days depart. Finally, there is no one left to listen or care.

And one day, for every one of us, there will come that inevitable moment when it is too late to forgive or express regret.

But we will still hope we are given that grace,

Because as the elicited words once said,

“As we forgive others”………….
