The Snow Arrived

It wasn’t an emotion I had expected or anticipated

Even a loved one could not describe me with validity as being a nature lover,

Growing up in the land of concrete has left its mark, I have stood in awe of a new skyscraper but reluctant always to touch a plant or sniff a flower.

I rarely call a florist, Rather I send gifts of Belgium chocolate.

Yet early last night I was overwhelmed and yes, in absolute and utter awe of the landscape.

I was traveling on a weekly vineyard tour. It is a new adventure that has become the focus of my Monday afternoons now for several weeks.

The excursion always provides a delightful early evening with great conversation, lovely laughter, and of course, interesting wine.

Our leader is witty, sophisticated and of course, knowledgeable about oh so many things important to “We of a certain age.”

Our comfortable chariot winds through miles of winding Michigan roads, (all unknown to me). Although the transit is tranquil and peaceful, it has never provided me with more than a moment to politely admire.

Until yesterday when the burst of cover, at the height of foliage season, seemed to explode with expectation and promise.

We had initially traveled past several political signs endorsing the two controversial Presidential candidates, and I wondered again about our beloved country’s future.

*And today as I read the words written four weeks before Winter and Covid descended, and our country had made a choice, once again I gave thanks!
