Trio Arrested During Massapequa Traffic Stop: Police

Officers found a gun and drugs during the traffic stop early Tuesday morning, police say.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - Three people were arrested in Massapequa after they were found with a gun and drugs during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning, according to Nassau Police.

At about midnight, an officer patrolling the area noticed five occupants in a 2014 Nissan Maxima with a defective headlamp and driving too closely, police said. The officer then conducted a traffic stop in the Budget Inn parking lot on 400 Carman Mill Road.

When the officer approached the car, a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the car, police said.

All occupants were removed from the car with help from additional officers.

During an investigation, a loaded black semi-automatic hand gun was recovered from the glove box along with 28 pills believed to be Alprazolam and a clear plastic bag containing a substance believed to be marijuana, police said.

The driver, 25-year-old Devine D. Poole of Roslyn Heights and two of the passengers; 24-year-old Lakisha Stephens of Brooklyn and 18-year-old Wayne Mcken of Roosevelt were all arrested without incident, police said.

There were no injuries reported.

Poole is charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a defaced weapon, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Stephens is charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and Mcken is charged with false personation, police said.

Poole and Mcken will both be arraigned on Tuesday. Stephens was released on an appearance ticket and is due back in court on Wednesday, August 31.
