Unqua Tribute To Veterans Has A Personal Touch
Unqua Elementary School fourth-graders created an American flag out of red, white and blue paper chains to mark Veterans Day.

MASSAPEQUA, NY - From Massapequa Public Schools: Red, white and blue paper chains were used to create an American flag in the fourth-grade hallway at Unqua Elementary School in the Massapequa School District as a way of marking Veterans Day.
Each fourth-grade student received a blank paper star and wrote the name of a veteran in his or her family. The stars were then added to the flag. Teacher Jessica Shippos said this was the first time they have done this project.
“We wanted the students to think about the men and women who have protected us and our country,” she said. “It gave them an opportunity to reflect on people in their lives who they consider heroes.”
