The envelope had my name and it was spelled correctly, which doesn’t always happen, so I was interested.
I abandoned the three catalogs from unknown vendors into the trash, put the legal sized white envelope into my pocket and headed back to my apartment.

After pouring my nightly treat, black coffee with a splash of whipped cream, I slit the envelope and removed the two page printed message.
And my equilibrium disappeared instantly.
The printed message was inflammatory, insulting in content and in my opinion, an invasion of my privacy.
For the past few months, I have spent far too much time deleting unsolicited email messages from both political parties and spokespeople. I religiously unsubscribe, delete and trash, to no avail. They pop up with perseverance cluttering my mail and ruining my breakfast with unwanted agendas.
However, this was the first time one was inserted into my personal mailbox, and I am deeply concerned. My anxiety is that the unwanted communications have merely begun.
If I am correct, the next national election will be in November, and we are currently still in the month of January.
I am also profoundly shocked and dismayed by the lack of respect by the sender of this inflammatory document.
In 2022 we are warned daily about the need to show consideration for those who do not share our ethnicity or sexual persuasion. We are vigilant about not shaming or embarrassing those who look, act or believe differently. These are all valid concerns and should be observed.
However, then they should apply equally to those who differ politically.
I hope the small spark of disrespect I encountered today is not the beginning of a national wildfire.
That would be so sad, and unnecessary and yes, insulting.
