Whiz Kid: Jamie Shand

Jamie was a top lacrosse player who will attend Merrimack.

Whiz Kid: Jamie Shand, age 18

About Jamie: Jamie is a graduating senior at Massapequa High School and stood as one of the Chiefs’ top lacrosse players. He has been a key starter for the varsity team since his sophomore year. Jamie was named an All-Conference player as a junior with an impressive stat line of 32 goals and 35 assists as Massapequa made a run to the Nassau County Finals.

In 2011, Massapequa earned a spot in the County finals again, but fell to rival Farmingdale. In the championship, Jamie collected a game-high eight points with five goals and three assists, also a season-high in goals for the senior.

Jamie finished his final season with 36 goals and 37 assists to best his numbers as a junior and earn All-County accolades. He scored three or more goals in eight games and collected at least five total points in nine games.

Key to Awesomeness: Jamie has always been an active team player during games against top league and non-league competition, as well as a leader in practice. The offense consistently runs through him, such as during his six-assist game against John Jay this past season.

The hard work earned him a nomination to the mens’ U-19 National Team tryouts and the 2011 All American Games this summer to take place in Florida. He also worked hard in the classroom along with excelling in athletics to earn a 3.2 overall GPA.

Jamie will attend Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts in the fall, where he will play Division II lacrosse. He received a combined academic and athletic scholarship to the school.
