• Massena petition seeks voter referendum to enact three-year data center moratorium (nny360.com) — Massena residents are circulating a petition asking the Town Board to put a three-year moratorium on new data centers up for a public vote, citing environmental, infrastructure, and quality-of-life concerns. Organizers hope to present hundreds of signatures at the Aug. 19 board meeting, arguing the pause would give Massena time to fully study impacts and strengthen local rules. 
• Homelessness up 54% in tri-county area, state report says; St. Lawrence County population centers feeling impact (northcountrynow.com) — Homelessness has risen sharply across Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties, and Massena is among the communities seeing the impact, especially for families and children. A new state comptroller’s report shows about 200 people counted homeless in early 2024 and urges more rental assistance, tenant protections, and transparency in how housing funds are used.
