UPDATE: DWI Charge After Crash Injures Child On Long Island Expwy: PD

Three people were injured, including a nine-year-old boy, Suffolk cops say.

UPDATE: A Brooklyn man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a two-car crash that seriously injured a nine-year-old boy on Monday morning on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk police said.

Travis Dickson was driving a 2018 BMW in the westbound lane when his vehicle rear-ended a 2019 Toyota Corolla just before 2 a.m., according to police.

A passenger in the Toyota, Angel Salis, was seriously injured, said police, adding that the driver of the Toyota, Salis' father, Bruce Koch, 49, of Deer Park, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, police said.

Dickson, 27, was also taken to Stony Brook with non-life-threatening injuries and he will be arraigned upon release from the hospital, according to police.

Both cars were impounded for safety checks, police said.

MEDFORD, NY — Sixth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that took place on the westbound Long Island Expressway between exits 63 and 64 in Medford at about 2 a.m. on Monday, Suffolk cops said.

At least one person is being treated for serious physical injuries, according to police.

No further information was immediately released.

Police could not confirm a report that a child was involved in the crash. Sources told News 12 that a the driver of the car was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The roadway was shut down for several hours and then reopened just before 9 a.m., Newsday reported.
