MEDFORD, NY – A Long Island resident got quite a scare Wednesday when they discovered a 6-foot snake hanging out in their garage. Thankfully a Suffolk County SPCA detective was already in the area on an unrelated matter.
SPCA officials say a Medford resident "frantically alerted" Det. Dominic Mozzone about the snake. Mozzone, who has attended the SPCA's dangerous reptile training, was ready and able to safely remove the black racer snake from their home.
The snake, which indigenous to our area, was released into a wooded-area. Black racer snakes, which are non-venomous, are also know as eastern racers and are typically found in open woodlands or along the edges of wetlands.
