Hero Off-Duty Firefighter Rescues Woman From Car On LIRR Tracks
The firefighter pulled a woman to safety moments before a train struck her car, sending it flying into the woods Tuesday night.

BROOKHAVEN, NY – When 65-year-old Pete DiPinto heard the sound of a car crash near his home Tuesday night, the Brookhaven firefighter rushed to the scene to find a woman inside a vehicle on the Long Island Rail Road tracks.
DiPinto pulled the woman from the car just before an eastbound train struck the car, sending it into the woods at the Arthur Avenue crossing in Brookhaven at about 10:20 p.m.
The woman's car had been pushed onto the tracks after it was involved in a minor crash, authorities said.

After DiPinto pulled the woman from the car, she was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center with only minor injuries.
