Medford Man Charged In Two Home Invasions

BREAKING: Two people, one of them who was shot, were hurt during the home invasions, police say. Police are seeking other suspects.

A 24-year-old man has been charged in two Suffolk County home invasions and police are asking for the public's help to find more suspects.

Following an investigation, Sixth Squad detectives located 25-year-old Joseph Wilko at his home on Carson Lane in Medford and placed him under arrest around 4:22 p.m. Thursday in connection with two separate home invasions.

The first incident occurred at an occupied home on Sheep Pasture Road in Port Jefferson on May 15 at about 11:50 p.m. Three men entered the home, assaulted the homeowner, and stole money and a pickup truck, police said. The male homeowner was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

During the second home invasion, a 24-year-old man was shot multiple times inside an apartment located on Kiowa Court in Coram around 10:10 p.m. on June 27. The man was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Wilko is charged with two counts of first degree burglary, one count of first degree assault and one count of of second degree assault.

The investigation is continuing and police are seeking the public’s help in finding additional suspects in connection with the home invasions. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652 at or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.

Wilko was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Friday.
