Motorcyclist Seriously Hurt After Taxi Driver Runs Red Light: Suffolk Police

It happened Monday morning.

CORAM, NY - A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a crash with a taxi that police say ran a red light in Coram Monday morning.

According to police, 49-year-old Jack Monti, of Mastic, was riding a 2004 Honda motorcycle north on Route 112 when he was struck by a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria that was traveling east on Route 25 and passed through a red light at the intersection.

Monti was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was admitted with serious leg injuries.

The driver of the taxi, Mindy Shaw, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured. Shaw, 43, of Centereach, was issued a summons for failing to stop at the traffic light, police said.

The taxi is owned and operated by Lindy’s Taxi, police said. A 66-year-old homeless woman was struck and killed by a taxi owned by the same company early Sunday in Port Jefferson Station.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone with information on Monday's crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
