Barbara Lockwood of Merrick among Top Fundraisers for DogFest LI

Barbara and therapy dog Rico have raised nearly $6,000 for the Oct. 20th event benefiting Canine Companions for Independence!

Merrick, NY: When asked why she decided to get involved with DogFest Long Island, Barbara Lockwood of Merrick said, “It just made sense to see what I could do.” As a long-time volunteer for Canine Companions for Independence, Barbara is well-aware of Canine Companions’ fundraising needs, and was one of the first to sign up and create a fundraising team.

With a goal of $5,000, Barbara and her Team, “Change of Career Dogs”, are reaching out to friends and family to ask them to support the organization that provides highly trained assistance dogs to children, adults and veterans with disabilities free of charge. From opening and close doors to picking up dropped items, these dogs enhance every aspect of their partners lives.

You can help make DogFest Walk ‘n Roll Long Island a success by participating in this event on Oct. 20th at the Tanger Outlets, Deer Park, 152 The Arches Circle in Deer Park, NY. Create a fundraising page and share the story of you and your family pet. There’s even a spot for a picture! Then share your page with your family and friends…

The fun starts Saturday, Oct. 20th at 10:30am. Last year, hundreds joined us in our biggest celebration yet with a costume contest, demonstrations, treats, freebies, photo booth, and best of all, stories of graduate teams who live and work on Long Island. Admission is free, parking is free and our event is accessible. Celebrate the community of people and dogs that make it possible to show that the most advanced technology capable of transforming the lives of people with disabilities has a cold nose and a warm heart.
