Update: Bellmore, Merrick Decide on Tuesday Classes

School officials make weather-related decision.

As snow and ice hit Long Island again, several school officials have ordered schools to be closed Monday.

According to the district websites:

Bellmore School District:

The Bellmore School District will be implementing a 2 hour delayed opening for tomorrow Tuesday, February 3rd.

The following should be noted:

SCHEDULE

  • School will start at 11:10 a.m. (rather than 9:10 a.m.)
  • Dismissal will be at the regular time of 3:30 p.m.

TRANSPORTATION

  • Bus transportation will be provided, on a two hour delayed schedule.
  • Students should arrive at their bus stops two hours later than usual.
  • Students being driven to school should arrive no earlier than 10:50 a.m.

CANCELLATIONS

  • All before school activities will be cancelled.
  • The JCC Before School Program will be cancelled.
  • The MORNING County preschool program will be cancelled.
  • Field trips scheduled will be cancelled.
  • ALL AFTERNOON CLASSES WILL BE IN SESSION

LUNCH

  • Lunch will be at the regularly scheduled time for all students and pre-ordered PTA lunches will be served.

STUDENT ABSENCE

  • Please follow the regular procedure and call your child’s school to report an absence.


A delayed opening is subject to change if the weather or road conditions remain hazardous.
The Superintendent may opt to modify the above guidelines or to close schools if the potential for hazardous conditions continues, and will send another ConnectEd message to notify parents.

Bellmore-Merrick Central High School:

Due to road icing conditions, the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD will be operating on a 2 hour delayed schedule Tuesday, February 3. High School students will report to their period 3 classes at 9:30am and Middle School students will report to their period 3 classes at 9:56am. Bus schedules will also be delayed by 2 hours. For example, if your child’s pick-up time is normally scheduled for 7:34am, a 2 hour delay will change the pickup time to 9:34am. Staff is expected to arrive as close to the regular school start time as safely as possible. Please use caution and be safe.

Merrick Elementary School District:

Merrick School District will have a two-hour delay, according to News 12.

North Merrick Schools:

Given the anticipated weather and icy road conditions, we will operate on a 2 hour delay schedule on Tuesday, February 3rd. Before school childcare and activities are cancelled. Children can begin arriving at 10:15 and school will start at 10:30.

Dismissal will be at the regular time.

Please take extra care tomorrow morning when coming to school or going to work. Your safety is very important to us.

North Bellmore Schools:

Two-hour delay for Tuesday.

•School will begin at 10:30 am for students. Students may arrive beginning at 10:17 am

•Dismissal times remain the same - 2:55 pm for Kindergarten and 3:00 pm for grades 1-6
•Buses will run on a two hour delayed schedule
•The cafeteria will be open and lunch will be served for those students who wish to purchase lunch
•The Bellmore Merrick Child Care Breakfast Program is canceled; however, the after school program will be open
•Faculty and Staff will follow the established Delayed Opening Protocol for Employees
