Bellmore-Merrick Holding Drug Take-Back Day

You can bring any drugs you want to get rid of, even illegal ones, with no questions asked.

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District will be holding a Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, May 13. The day is an opportunity for people to safely empty out medications that are sitting around their home, as well as dispose of illegal drugs with no questions asked.

The take-back will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grand Avenue Middle School, located at 2301 Grand Ave. in Bellmore. Officials will be on-hand to take the drugs and stow them for safe disposal by the Nassau County Police Department.

Bringing drugs to take-backs is an easy way to ensure they are properly disposed of. Flushing them down the toilet can cause the chemicals in the medications to enter the water supply. And leaving them around the house could make them a temptation for teens and others who are looking to get high.

In addition to prescription medication, illegal drugs can be dropped off anonymously. Syringes and sharps will also be accepted.

Before you drop off the prescriptions, cross out the name on the pill bottle for anonymity. However, don't cross out any medical information -- it's important to know what prescriptions re being collected and disposed of. Also, make sure to keep all medications in the original containers.
