Brothers Arrested For Possession of Drugs, Guns After Attempted Murder: Police

One of the brothers shot at a man during a verbal altercation in Freeport, police say.

FREEPORT, NY - Two brothers were arrested for after one of them shot at a man and was found with his brother who was in possession of drugs and guns in Freeport on Friday afternoon, according to Nassau Police.

At about 12:06 p.m., 56-year-old Larry Williams, of Freeport was involved in a verbal altercation with a 57-year-old man in the back of 73 South Main Street when he pulled out his handgun and fired two shots at the victim, police said.

The man was able to avoid being hit by the gunshots and ran into the building.

Shortly after, Freeport detectives found Williams, who was a passenger in a car, on Powell Street and Colonial Avenue.

The driver of the car, who is also William's brother, 54-year-old Robert Williams, was found to be in possession of heroin, as was Larry Williams, police said.

As a result of a search of the brothers' home, two handguns were recovered, one of which was stolen, police said.

Larry is being charged with second degree attempted murder, first degree criminal use firearm, two counts of third degree criminal possession weapon, fourth degree criminal possession stolen property, two counts of criminal possession firearm and seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said.

Robert is being charged with seventh degree criminal possession controlled substance and two VTL infractions, Fail to stop at intersection stop sign and improper turn/fail to signal, police said.

Larry was arraigned on Saturday and Robert was released on a desk appearance ticket returnable on Monday, April, 11.
