Richard Perry, a teacher at Calhoun High School, was one of just 75 in North America to be honored with the Apple Distinguished Educator Award.
According to Apple's website, Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) are part of a global community of education leaders recognized for doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom. They explore new ideas, seek new paths, and embrace new opportunities. That includes working with each other — and with Apple — to bring the freshest, most innovative ideas to students everywhere.

Last year, Perry began working with iPads in the classroom, and Apple reached out to him about working with his class. They were curious as to his progress, and they actually flew him out so he could weigh in on the new iTunes U program.
Following that, he was able to publish all of his stuff online so the students would have instant access around the clock, a trend Perry says "is the wave of the future."
“You’re able to reach out to the kids all the time," Perry said. "Now they have access at all times to the materials that will help them push forward with their education.”
For his efforts, Perry received $3,000 and said he was very excited to receive the honor.
“I’m thrilled with it," he said. "I’m really into putting technology into the classroom.”
