Charges Upgraded For Driver In Fatal Merrick Crossing Guard Crash: Police
Police say the driver who hit John Miro with a car on Feb. 27 faces upgraded charges. Miro died of injuries sustained in the crash Friday.
MERRICK, NY. — The driver who fatally struck crossing guard John Miro with his car on Feb. 27 is facing upgraded charges after Miro died Friday, police said.
Nassau County police said Friday night that Joshua Alvarado, the driver who had been arrested and charged with driving while impaired by drugs after hitting Miro with his car, was having his charges upgraded to one count of second-degree manslaughter and one count of second-degree assault.
Previously, Alvarado had pleaded not guilty to a second-degree count of vehicular assault, a second-degree count of assault, one count of driving while ability impaired (DWAI) by drugs and one count of operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.
